The following new books have been added to the library in February of 2012
"Creative Stamping" by Sherrill Kahn
Gives information about how to take your rubber stamp art to a whold new level. It contains 12 step-by-step projects including a pillow, tee-shirt, wallhanging, scarf and some non-fabric items. Techniques include glazing and layering colors on fabric and combining with dry sponging. It also tells how to make your own stamps using simple materials found around the home.
"One-Block Wonders Cubed" by Maxine Rosenthal & Joy Pelzmann
This book is all about visual puzzles. It includes instructions on how to create optical illusions by making "impossible structures" such as those known by M.C. Escher. Includes instructions for 8 projects as well as bonus projects designed to us your scraps to make place mats, coasters, tote bags and album colvers.
"Beading on Fabric" by Larkin Jean VanHorn
This book teaches you how to embellish with beads. It gives tips on using all types of beads, threads, fabrics, needles, glues and stabilizers and tips on caring for beaded fabrics. There are colorful illustrations, helpful tricks, great inspiration and wonderful technique resource.
"Quilts Made Modern" by Weeks Ringle & Bill Kerr
Great book with lots of information about color theory and design. It discussess developing a palette and climbing out of a palette rut. Gives instructions for 10 projects and tips for problem solving.
"Strips 'n Curves" by Louisa L. Smith
Teaches a quiltmaking technique combining basic strip piecing and gentle curves. Gives instructions for 3 complete quilt projects from beginner through advanced. These quilts looks complicated but, according to the author, are simple to construct.
"Adventures in Mixed Media" by Jane Davies
This book contains instructions for working with mixed media in all of its forms, including fabric, found objects, beads, feathers and ribbons. It contains instructions for 21 projects ranging from bags, books and boxes to a fabric-paper mini quilt. This book contains wonderful ideas for things to make for our Guild Boutique.
"Treasury of Applique Quilt Patterns" by Maggie Malone
Teaches the basic how-to's of machine and hand applique, including how to sew vines, circles and leaves. It has more than 70 different block patterns and shows a color photo of each pattern and provides the templates for each design. Patterns are traditional, but can be made as contemporary as you desire.
